To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vatican II and the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church the now-emeritus pope Benedict proclaimed a Year of Faith running from 11 October 2012 to 24 November 2013.
As one contribution to the Year of Faith, Shrewsbury Diocese Commission for the Promotion of Justice, Peace and Social Responsibility developed and regularly updated a J&P Calendar to help groups and individuals renew their commitment to the gospel message. Special days or weeks of prayer and/or action were listed, covering a wide range of topics – some familiar, some perhaps less so – complete with links for further information. Each date was supported by a scripture verse or a quote from Catholic Social Teaching or other eminent source plus prayer or action ideas. No list can be exhaustive and so the calendar was subject to regular revisions and additions – users being invited to check the website for any changes, and to contact Anne O’Connor email@example.com with suggestions for further dates.
“Drawing Inspiration from Vatican II”. As a further contribution to Year of Faith, the Commission organised an open event, a study afternoon and discussion at St Columba’s Hall, Chester on Saturday 18th May. This was led by Brian Davies, one time head of education at CAFOD, well known as an engaging speaker with a wealth of wisdom to share, and his talk and insights were very well received. Here is a synopsis of Brian’s talk: Drawing Inspiration from Vatican II – synopsis and here is the link to Brian’s PowerPoint presentation: Receiving Vatican II
